Dear Mrs. Sharon

Thank you for your interest in Mazuri Rodent Diet.

I’m afraid that you have been misinformed; corn (maize) is a very good ingredient which has many important nutrients that are necessary for the health of mice and rats. On no occasion has maize ever been demonstrated to cause cancer.

Mazuri is a brand name of Purina Mills, the world’s oldest and biggest animal feed company. We were the first company to ever develop a diet for mice, and we feed over 80% of the mice that are commercially raised in the U.S.. Almost all of these rodent feed products use corn as the first ingredient. Our 5002 Certified LabDiet Rodent Diet is used as the base diet for over 90% of the rodent tests done in the U.S. to see if drugs cause cancer. This would be impossible if 5002 itself caused cancer. The first ingredient in 5002 is corn (maize) and 5002 contains approximately the same amount of corn as does 5663. Corn is, in fact, an excellent ingredient that is very suitable for mice.

By the way, a great deal of the nutritional information on the internet is incorrect and has no basis in fact.

I hope that this helps.

Best regards,
Dave Salmon
